Collezione: Safari from Minneriya

A little over 180 km away from Colombo, the Minneriya National Park is about a 4 – 5 hours drive depending on the time schedule and traffic. During the dry season, the National park transforms into a feeding ground mainly for the elephant population dwelling in the forests of the adjoin districts Matale, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee. The Minneriya National Park is famed for its elephant gathering since its habitat contributes completely to sustain a big herd of Sri Lankan elephants. The numbers can go from 150 – 200 elephants up to 700. Throngs of tourists, local and foreign, visit the park during the season while the main habitats including scrublands, low/high canopy forests, grasslands, abandoned chena lands, wetlands and various rocky areas can be seen while on a safari at the park. The park boasts of 24 species of mammals, 160 species of birds, and many species of amphibians, reptiles, fish and butterflies.
