For those seeking to witness large groups of elephants and an abundance of birdlife, a Kumana National Park Safari will not disappoint. Renowned for its wildlife diversity, including the famous elephants and rich birdlife, the park offers a year-round opportunity to experience Sri Lanka’s natural beauty.
Experience:
We will start the Jeep tour from the main entrance of the Park (GPS: 6°40'49.0"N 81°37'52.2"E). If you are staying in a hotel that is within a 5 KM radius of the park entrance, you are entitled to a complimentary pickup from your hotel.
Once we complete the standard process of entry into the park, we will venture into the pristine wilderness of Kumana, which is famous not only for its majestic Sri Lankan Elephants but also for the abundance of birds, making it one of the best birdwatching locations in Sri Lanka.
Our journey will take us through wetlands and grasslands, where we hope to spot animals like the Sri Lankan Elephant, Golden Jackal, Spotted Deer, and Leopard. In addition, the wetlands are a haven for birds such as Pelicans, Storks, Lesser Adjutants, Ibises, and other waders that flock to the lagoons and marshes.
As we continue the safari, we will reach the scenic Kumana Villu, a swamp area where large colonies of birds nest, and you may also encounter wild buffalo, crocodiles, and other animals coming to drink. The breathtaking vistas of the park, surrounded by the thick forests and open plains, are sure to provide a memorable experience for any wildlife enthusiast.
Your tour will conclude at the park entrance, unless you are staying in a hotel within the 5 KM radius of Kumana National Park’s entrance. In this case, you will receive a complimentary drop-off right to your hotel, concluding your exciting safari adventure.
